I made this as a tribute to Akira Toriyama (the creator of "Dragon Ball") and my mom. Toriyama passed around this time last year. Since his work shaped me, not just as an artist, but as a person, I HAD to pay homage. That said, my mom deserves her flowers too. She’s my biggest supporter and the reason I got into "Dragon Ball" in the first place.
I say this all the time, but without "Dragon Ball", there’s no Modi. It was the first thing that made me LOVE art. I just wanted to draw Goku like Toriyama did. From ages 3-16, I drew every day, trying to get his proportions right. Lots of late 11pm-2am drawings sessions as a kid that left me frustrated fr. Not many art classes growing up, just trial, error, and a LOT of YouTube tutorials. Now that I'm able to draw Goku correctly, it feels so surreal to look back at my journey. "Dragon Ball" built my foundation for drawing, alongside other anime and manga. However, DBZ was the start. None of this would be possible without it. So once again, much love to Toriyama and my mom. "Cha-La Head-Cha-La."
